Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach focused on exploring the unconscious mind, which influences thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through examining early experiences, unresolved conflicts, and relationship patterns, it aims to help individuals gain insight into their emotional world and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
While therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) are often structured and focused on specific behaviors or thoughts, psychodynamic therapy is more open-ended, allowing for exploration of deeper-rooted issues. It places emphasis on self-reflection, exploring past experiences, and understanding long-standing patterns that influence current feelings and relationships.
In each session, you’ll have the space to talk openly about whatever is on your mind. Over time, we may explore recurring themes, relational patterns, and unconscious influences. Sessions are collaborative; the pace and focus are tailored to your needs and comfort.
Psychodynamic therapy is typically a longer-term process, as it aims for deep and lasting change. The duration varies depending on individual needs, goals, and issues. Some clients find meaningful change in a few months, while others choose to work for a year or more. The process is flexible, and we’ll regularly discuss your progress.
Sessions are held once a week and last for 50 minutes. Consistent attendance is encouraged, as regular sessions can help deepen the therapeutic process.
Yes, missed sessions are chargeable. To help maintain the continuity of your therapy, I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. When possible, I will offer an alternative time for that week to make up the missed session. I do charge for missed sessions, due to holidays or unexpected breaks. Paying for missed sessions ensures that I can consistently hold your session space for you which is essential for the deepening of therapeutic work.
If I, as the therapist, need to cancel a session, no payment is required.
Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental part of therapy. What you share in sessions stays private, except in certain situations where safety is a concern (such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others). We will review these limits to confidentiality in your first session so you feel fully informed.
If you’re interested in understanding yourself more deeply, working through long-standing patterns, or exploring the roots of complex emotions, psychodynamic therapy may be a good fit. Many clients find it particularly helpful for dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and identity concerns.
It’s natural to feel uncertain at times, especially as therapy can bring up complex emotions. If you ever feel uncomfortable, please share these feelings. Part of the therapeutic process involves working through these emotions, and discussing them openly can actually deepen the work and foster greater trust.
I currently accept WPA insurance. Please get in touch to find out more about if you would like to access therapy via this provider.

Starting is simple! You can contact me by phone or email to schedule an initial no obligation 15 minute telephone discussion. Following this if we agree it would be helpful we would arrange an initial consultation. This consultation is an opportunity to discuss your goals and explore your history and early experiences. It may be that we agree to an extended consultation over two or three sessions to get a clearer understanding of how therapy might support you and see if psychodynamic therapy feels like a good fit. We would discuss this following the initial consultation.
If we agree that psychodynamic therapy and the way I work is a good fit for you, we’ll arrange a regular time for your sessions. The initial phase of therapy often involves sharing your history, exploring current concerns, and identifying goals. From there, we’ll move into a more open exploration, tailored to your unique needs.
